Rahm Emmanuel Uses A Racial Slur?
According to the Wall Street Journal, when White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel learned about attack ads against conservative Democrats not supportive of healthcare reform, blasted the move as “fucking retarded”. That happened over the summer. Now, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin called on President Obama to fire him for what she saw as the equivalent of a racial slur. I didn’t know a retarded condition was the equivalence of race.

By that definition, I guess a group of assholes would be a race or people working in a corporation are a race. However, race is also defined as a competition of speed. And I seriously doubt if anybody considers retarded people a competition of speed either.
I guess I should’ve stipulated by the more classic definition of race:
1. A local geographic or global human population distinguished as a more or less distinct group by genetically transmitted physical characteristics.
However, I’m willing to recognize the contention that Ms. Palin is retarded as well and has transmitted her genetic traits to her retarded child.

Well I am aware of all the definitions of “race.” And yes, in fact assholes are a race; I would even argue that there can be no such thing as true “racism,” because racists technically are a race, and thus to dislike racists is racism.
Anyway, my point was that Palin was not incorrect. She did not claim that Emanuel used an ethnic racial slur; just a racial one. Since “race” can mean any group of people defined by any common trait whatsoever, she was actually not incorrect.

Actually, she was incorrect. Mr. Emmanuel did not employ a racial slur. The phrase “fucking retarded” is as much a racial slur as “fucking stupid”. To say that the latter would be a racial slur against the stupid race is for all practical purposes incorrect no matter how accurately it meets one of the more obscure definitions (like number 9) from the dictionary.
