All Of America Was Baracking This Week

I am not the greatest fan of Senator Barack Obama.  Lord knows, along with a fifty dollar donation after a particularly nasty comment about his character from his political opponent Senator Hillary Clinton, I have given him plenty of static through this blog and through discussions with friends and family.  But I have to admit to my own hopes for America’s future with our first black President.  I have to admit that while I had an overwhelming sense that Senator John McCain would have been a disastrous choice to lead America out of its doldrums using virtually the same policies that got us into our doldrums, I too looked forward to seeing Mr. Obama becoming America’s first black President.  Sometime ago I wrote that Mr. McCain looked like he was about to become the first white guy to lose the White House to a black man.  To McCain meant to be a white guy losing to a black man.  To Barack meant to win and send the white guy packing.  All of America was Baracking this week!

  1. One telling scene from (mostly white) Iowa: we were walking down the streets going to selected doors to get the Democrats out to vote.

We had on Obama gear. A white roofer was working on a job and informed me that “he had voted absentee”; he did this without any prompting from me.

He just wanted to let us know that he was with us. 🙂

I still smile when I think of that.

But if you want a kick, check out this photo. When did you’d ever dream of seeing this?

  3. and why did you have to include that the white guy lost to the black guy?

You look at this as some kind of game don’t you?

You think that in order for black people to win that white people have to lose, in fact that is very different than how it has to be.
