Charlton Heston And White Pride

Charlton Heston died a couple of weekends ago. For a couple of days there you couldn’t watch the news without hearing about this well known actor kicking the bucket. Although its been decades since he’s done anything noteworthy, in the Ten Commandments, he played Moses fighting for the liberation of the enslaved Israelites against the dominating culture of Egypt. He played the Omega Man, one of the last men on Earth working hard to restore humanity to humanity. He played Robert Thorn in the movie Soylent Green discovering that a huge corporate machine is actually consuming the poor and disenfranchised humans in order to produce the very sustenance that keeps others alive. And in Planet of the Apes Mr. Heston played George Taylor, an astronaut that travels into the future and witnesses a time where civilized apes subjugates uncivilized humans through methods of propaganda that keeps people from reaching their true potential. Mr. Heston has been a very busy actor.

Mr. Heston was also a very busy advocate. He is most notably known as the president of the National Rifle Association as well as the Screen Actor’s Guild. Mr. Heston quit the screen actor’s guild when a white actor was denied the opportunity to play a Eurasian in Miss Saigon. Mr. Heston felt this action was too unconscionably racist to be tolerated. He resigned his leadership role as Screen Actor’s Guild president. It was Mr. Heston’s opinion that it is more important to protect white actor’s right to play whatever role that comes their way instead of getting more racial diversity in the acting profession. Mr. Heston quit the National Rifle Association only after his Alzheimer’s infliction became too severe for him to ignore.

I was surprised to hear that Mr. Heston marched with Doctor King in the struggle for rights for the black community because Mr. Heston was a strong advocate of white pride. I may have mistakenly assumed that Mr. Heston’s white pride meant he was some kind of closet Aryan or Nazi. His close relationship to the Republican Party and its denizens who often ignore the plight of the black community only reinforced my opinion that Mr. Heston should be kicked to the curb. But like most things, the reality is much more complex than the assumption.

While I support the rights of any ethnicity to have pride in its heritage, so much of the accomplishments of white people have been obtained at the expense of other ethnicities. For example, the greatness of America did not and could not happen without the suppression and subjugation of the many tribes of people who called this continent home long before the average European was aware of its existence, long before the Europeans usurped these natives’ land and called it America. According to Wikipedia, the name America is derived from a European explorer named Amerigo Vespucci or Latinized to Americus Vespucius or the feminized version America, keeping in the tradition of feminizing the name of the other continents.

The pride white people have in their short lived Confederacy of the Americas is typical of white people’s insensitivity to matters of race. Arguably, the single issue which led to the establishment of white people’s Confederacy is the southern United States overwhelming desire to protect its economy with the practically free labor of the African descendent. Many white people take pride in the Confederate flag and point to it fondly as a part of their white heritage. But if someone of German descent proudly wore and displayed a swastika as a part of their German heritage not many people would be willing to tolerate its exhibition. The city I currently live has a large German population and not a single swastika in sight. Why do we continue to tolerate such a symbol of white pride but racial discord? The reason is that many of these people, entire state governments in fact, will embrace the mindset, this is our history and black people can go to hell.

The continued acceptance of the Confederate flag, the little smiling sambos employed by many sports teams that represent various ethnicities such as the African, Asian, Latin, and the Native American is indicative of a major principle of white pride. Many people who celebrate white pride operate with the impression that white pride equates a disregard for other races and ethnicities. Some people who want to manifest their white pride will blatantly detest the very existence of people from other races and ethnicities. And because the dominant culture consists mainly of white people and other ethnicities that are very sensitive to the values that are dictated by white people, the dominant culture is much more willing to tolerate symbolisms that are offensive only primarily to minorities.

White pride is apparent in an America that tolerates racial disparity as a matter of public policy. White pride is apparent when institutions and corporations try to make amends for their history that favored the white community to the point of virtual exclusivity are reprimand by the courts for embracing a strategy of affirmative action. An institution or corporation with a population that is disproportionately white with respect to the local public racial ratio will suddenly be considered unfair to a single white individual who was unable to take advantage of an opportunity because the institution wanted to assure some kind of representation of a qualified minority candidate. White pride calls this reverse discrimination and special treatment. Minorities are getting preferential treatment even though white people continue to take advantage of the majority of opportunities.

In all honesty white pride is in no way in danger of being extinguished. It is embraced so heavily that sometimes, other ethnicities often participate in its celebration without even understanding why. For example, virtually every year the number of people who make the pilgrimage to a Disney theme park grows significantly. The Disney Corporation has not been a leader in the development of cultural diversity. The first Disney film that featured live actors was Song of the South and in many respects, the movie promoted the relationship of black people as the natural servants of white people. Disney’s movie the Lion King, with its African based setting, has far more white actors and supporting cast than black ones. And yet, because of the vast and overwhelming amount of marketing and propaganda that has evolved as a result of the Disney brand, black people are lured like lemmings into the Disney fan club like moths to a flame.

Being black, and understanding white people’s penchant for racially insensitive violence often dismissed as pranks and the somewhat oppressive standards for behavior and appearance that allow for some superficial racial diversity but limited cultural diversity, Mr. Heston’s call for more white pride and for more white power was a troubling invocation. White pride in itself is nothing to fear. Overzealous white pride in the hands of many white people can be devastating.

  1. Mike,

You obviously feel strongly about white pride and Charlton Heston. You obviously disagree. But you are also bent on slinging insults about my intelligence on my blog. You really must think I am an idiot to allow you to disparage my character on my blog. I find you a typical, angry white person, bent on protecting white privilege, who feels entitled to rage against anybody who does not share your opinion.

It is easy to toss insults. It’s obvious your mother would have done the world a favor if she was smart enough to have her tubes tied to keep a socially retarded bastard such as yourself from being born. But how would me insulting you be helpful in a conversation? It isn’t. Your less than appropriate comments are not welcomed here. Please find somewhere else to exercise your mental masturbation. When you learn to talk nicely to others, please continue to talk to them and do not come back.

    Peace

For you very much sound like you need it

  2. Personally I like the post. It is not speaking anything false or hatred. In fact you said that the racial pride of any race is a good thing. But when your racial pride means that every other race needs to be denigrated then there is a problem. I agree with that wholeheartedly.

The problem with the white pride movement is that it has run amok. They can’t just be proud that they are white they need to hate others to make that pride show. This tells me that these people truly have nothing to be proud of. They don’t research their true racial history and may not truly know where they hail from.

They need to learn to know thyself before they start trashing others. Maybe then this country can start to put racial disparity behind us.

    Thanks

  3. Thanks for the feedback theblacksentinel,

So many people are so quick to anger about things they don’t understand it is truly remarkable. As you said, the article wasn’t about anything false or hateful. But people like Mike get so incensed from just the nerve of black people mentioning the names of their white icons that they want to vent without taking the time to read. I bet Mike never even saw a Charlton Heston movie. Typical.

    Peace

  4. I read the article with an open mind as I do with all articles. It was written well. I read the comments as well.
I do believe that ‘White Pride’ or pride in your race has gone amok. Most whites, in my belief, have been told that they are Americans now and to release all bonds to their parent countries and have become Americans. Yes, white Americans, should know their heritage of their fathers and mothers. Where they came from and why, How they lived and where they died and why. So, should everyone else that are here in America and abroad.
You see most white Americans when asked say..’I’m an American of German descent, Irish, French, Italian…etc..’ ‘My family as far as I know came for Religious reasons, drought, persecution, etc’
That is because they chose to immigrate to this country when it became America or were part of the colonies and fought to make it the United States of America.
Now for myself …When I have asked a ‘black’ American where their from…’My mother/father came Kenya but I am an American.
    OR
‘We are from Georgia (example only of the state) and my family were slaves.’
That is usually not followed up with I’m an American because they weren’t as you have stated about whites of the time building their current economies, cultures, etc.. on the ‘backs’ of others. That is all very true. A slave by google definition
Definitions of slave on the Web:
    • a person who is owned by someone
    • someone who works as hard as a slave
    • work very hard, like a slave

You see when the North fought the South over succession rights, economies and how they should be run, and whether or not the Western Territories should be ‘slave states’ or not. They were thinking of stopping slavery yes but of several other issues as well.
They thought of freeing the slave populace of the then South but also of stopping the spread and of slavery westward and that would of changed the balance of political powers in the U.S. Congress of the time too.
The end result of the American Civil War of 1861 to 1864 is that slavery was abolished by law and that the then slaves were given ‘freedom’ and in some cases plantations were divided up as spoils of war and divided among the former slaves (depends on what you read about the land division). The Southern soldiers were forced to give oaths of loyalty to the United States again.
    http://www.alexandria.lib.va.us/lhsc_genealogy_resources/oath/doc.html

Now the slaves on the other hand, as far as I know, had never become American citizens. Their descendents feel their ancestors were forced to come here, which they were. They never gave an oath of citizenship to the United States of America and just because you were born some place does not make you a citizen of that country. Even though U.S. law says you were born here you’re an American. You see blacks of slave descent, in my opinion have no self pride of becoming American Citizens. If you talk to those who have just taken the oath of loyalty they feel pride and tell their children of that pride..’You are an American’!!!!!

The United States Oath of Allegiance (officially referred to as the “Oath of Allegiance,” 8 C.F.R. Part 337 (2008)) is an oath that must be taken by all immigrants who wish to become United States citizens. The first officially recorded Oaths of Allegiance were made on May 30th, 1778 at Valley Forge, during the Revolutionary War.
The current oath is as follows:
I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God.[1]
    This is from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oath_of_citizenship_(United_States)

Now I say ‘I’m an American’ my ancestors came from Europe, I am white and proud of my families history in this country and abroad. I don’t wear a swastika or a bed sheet but I am very proud to be an American ….a white American.

I hope you all have pride in America too and of being an American because you were born here just like me and although I didn’t take the oath of allegiance my family members did and I fulfill their oath of loyalty every day with pride in them and of my country.

Thanks for listening to me my name is Bill
Please feel free to email me back, I look forward to your thoughts on what I’ve written.

  5. and again you don’t understand us.

White pride has nothing to do with anyone but people of European descent, if you consider white supremacy the same as white pride then that must mean that black pride equals black supremacy because there are many more black hate groups now than white hate groups and they use black power and black pride as their symbols just like the KKK did with white power and white pride.

White pride has always been to acknowledge the greatness of what European people have done for the world and our unique cultures and identity that helps diversify it, it has been that way since white people have walked this earth no matter what some stupid redneck says.

and yes, unfortunately you are wrong again because true white pride is dying and is being replaced by white self hatred.

    • Thanks for the feedback Proud white,

And thanks for another small minded reply. I seriously doubt if you even read the article. Every ethnicity is entitled to be proud of its heritage. But all too often, the term white power is most often used by people who refer to black people as niggers. White proud comes at the expense of other ethnicities. When well established radical hate groups such as the Aryan Nation, the ku klux klan, Neo Nazi groups, skinheads, the White Order of Thule, the Creativity Movement, and more express their pride with white power slogans, racial slurs for other ethnicities is the other part of their standard white pride speeches.

If you know so much about black history like you claim in your other comments, and the fact that you say that there are more hate groups composed of black people, then you’d probably be capable of naming them. I invite you to stand by your claim. I just named six well established, well known white hate groups. You’re probably intimately familiar with at least a couple of them. So please, name a few black hate groups that are well established and are free to continue to exist today.

      Again, we are waiting.

      Peace

  6. Come on now, I read the article and I answered with what you ultimately wanted see(the other side of white pride explained by someone who actually knows what it means and expresses it daily).

All my post said was that I know that idiots have used white power and white pride to symbolize their supremacist views but really if you were proud about something then you wouldn’t need to make people feel bad about something they were proud of would you?

My point was that white pride obviously has nothing to do with the KKK because the KKK were not proud of their heritage and neither were any white supremacist groups because they were obviously self haters with a deep jealously towards non whites, Jews and Catholics.

Just because white supremacist groups were the first to actually say white power and indicate that they had white pride, doesn’t mean that they used those phrases correctly.

When I say I am proud to be white, it simply means I don’t look down on my ancestor’s cultures, despite the mistakes they made when trying to implement them sometimes and it ultimately means that I believe the good that Europeans have brought to the world outweighs the bad, and I don’t refer to black people as niggers, in public, in private or anywhere because I don’t have a prejudice feeling towards you all.(I usually don’t even type it in this context because I don’t like that word)

Now in regards to naming black supremacists groups I will do that in another post, although you should know I could name 6 very easily.

    • Proud white,

We are still waiting for all of those black hate groups! Since there were so many I thought for sure you could name some off the top of your head instead of having to look them up and getting back to me.

No one here is saying that white people should be ashamed to be white. You sound like a white person with a chip on their shoulder looking for someone to push it. And the idea of black people making white people feel ashamed is truly ridiculous. White people who wear their racism proudly have done well in America. After his rant on a comedy stage calling black people niggers Michael Richards is still very much in high demand. After being taken to task for referring to an organization of black women as nappy headed ho’s Don Imus is now doing better than ever. After Duane Chapman is exposed as a racist who tried to force his son to break up with his black girlfriend Mr. Chapman’s show is back and more popular than ever. What white person gets punished for being a racist? If anything, generally speaking white people support other white people who wear their racism on the sleeve.

And as far as you not having an issue against black people? That comment you made about being in so much hell because you had to learn so much about black history more than implies your distinct distaste for the history of the black community.

      Peace

  7. I can name them off the top of my head but some of them have such goofy names that I can’t even remember the whole thing.

The Nation of Islam, The Black Hebrew Israelites and the New Black Panthers are the only ones I can fully spell out because they are the only ones that have words that sound like they go together.

Seriously though, read my other posts and you will see I don’t hate black people.

If you read my response to your response about black history you will understand why it was hell as I have given a very accurate summary of my main curriculum from lst to 8th grade(my school teachers sucked and caused my future in education to be much harder).

It also had to do with political affliation, as I am Conservative and I was mostly dealing with diehard Liberals.

I also did go through hell from 6th to 8th grade because I subjected to intense bullying for no reason other than being who I am(not a jackass like they wanted me to be).

    • Proud white,

So because you had to deal with die hard liberals the black community is responsible for your hell? How does that make sense? The Nation of Islam is a black hate group? The New Black Panthers are a black hate group? Well, I guess if you refer to one person who says something stupid makes an organization a hate group then I guess we’ve opened an entire can of worms. I guess when George Allen made his unfortunate statement referring to the only minority in the audience as macaca that made the entire Republican Party a hate group. FOX News and people who listen to Rush Limbaugh are another white hate group.

I’m sorry to hear that you were bullied in grade school. I’m glad it is over. But at least it is over for you. I still deal with white people in my work environment who respond to me as if I’m not there. I’ll be fifty in a few years and I have to work with people who prefer to ignore me on the job. I have always worked with a predominantly politically conservative environment. I don’t have the luxury of thinking about these issues as things that happened on the playground or back in grade school. This is the stuff that happens day in and day out virtually everyday of my life. I feel like I am bullied everyday by people who are supposed to be professional but instead act like sixth graders.

For the record I was bullied in school as well. A lot of people have. But to form social opinions and political ideas because someone of color did something bad all those years ago when we were pubescent is rather absurd.

      Peace

  8. Proud white,

And now because you are a social misfit you are bullied everyday? That really is a stretch. And now the society you want to avoid altogether is the same society that you want to protect from all the black people who are manipulating the conversation about racism.

    Peace

  9. Proud white,

Okay! I yield! I must admit I didn’t know anything about the New Black Panthers and based what I knew on the original Black Panther movement. And I didn’t know that the Nation of Islam believed that we are inherently evil from birth even though it sounds very much like the Christian principle of people born in sin and are only saved through baptism in the name of Christ.

You named three black hate groups. When it comes to white supremacist all I can name is the American Renaissance, European Americans United, National Alliance, National Association for the Advancement of White People, National Vanguard, Nationalist Coalition, Nationalist Movement, White Revolution, Women for Aryan Unity, Stormfront, Vanguard News Network, White Nationalist Forums, Neo-Nazism, the Celtic Cross, the Council of Conservative Citizens, the Creativity Movement, the Order, the Aryan Nation, Heritage Front, White Aryan Resistance, European-American Unity and Rights Organization, Hammerskins, and the Swedish Resistance Movement.

And did you know that up until about thirty or forty years ago Mormons believed that the only way a black person was going to get to heaven was to obey white people. Let’s throw them into the pile.

But because you can say the New Black Panther party is much larger than the klan without producing a single set of numbers to support such an asinine assumption you’ll probably say that the membership of the three black organizations you named far exceeds membership in all these white organizations.

    Peace

  10. Great reply BrotherP! Not to mention that this person is obviously confused. They would like for us to believe that these organizations are somehow on the same racist level as these white organizations which ARE KNOWN THROUGH FACTS to having committed many violent racist acts against minorities.

Why doesn’t Proud White tell us all the white people who have been lynched, attacked or otherwise viciously maligned by these three groups named. Why doesn’t Proud White tell us all the times these three organizations have marched into predominantly white areas yelling and screaming profane names and made derogatory statements towards white people.

They haven’t that is why this person did not come with a shred of evidence that these groups are in any way racist organizations. Just because a group of people calls out some of those in the white race for being hypocritical or in some other way shows their disdain for blacks doesn’t make them racist. It makes them aware of the disparity.

But, you can’t argue logic with the illogical. Like I keep saying the reason things people like Proud White say are free is because they are worthless.

    Thanks.
