White People Are Welcome
There was a comment in the mail box. The first sentence started off with something to the effect, I’m a white woman so I know this automatically makes me wrong here. The entire comment must’ve been almost four paragraphs long. But I couldn’t bother to read the rest of it. I deleted it straight off the bat. But a comment deletion only sends the comment to the trash bin. I went to the bin and emptied it so that it was irrecoverable. But a copy of the comment was sent to my email for confirmation so I could still retrieve it if I wanted to. But give me a minute and I’ll delete it from there too.
Contrary to what a lot of people, both black and white, like to pretend to believe, I am not a racist and I invite contrary opinions. From a social perspective I think it would be fair to call me a liberal. If I had to choose between the two political parties I can say that my leanings are more Democrat although I do have a history of voting for Republican as well as for people who would be considered politically independent. I practice an African tradition that is totally unorthodox. Most people are some form of either Christians, Muslims, Jewish or atheist and would consider my spiritual values somewhat ridiculous. I think people should have the choice to smoke pot and if the public needs protection from dangerous drugs then alcohol would be public enemy number one. I think the black community has been seriously and significantly injured by institutionalized racism and blatant racial discrimination and racial stereotypes are actively being employed to keep the black community in general. Homosexuals have just as much right to marry the person of their choice as heterosexuals. Sarah Palin is a very charming politician who is a total idiot. And while Barack Obama is the world’s first black President of the United States, his election does nothing to reverse America’s racial imbalance.
Now, any one of these issues alone is enough to catch a lot of flak from the average joe all by its lonesome. Considering their collection here on this blog, and plenty of other issues from my unpopular take on things as well, it’s a given that these issues would be an invitation to conversation, discussion, and/or even a heated dispute. People are more than welcome to disagree as long as they do it with a class and respect for me and my blog and an open mind to hear something new.
A lot of white people think they have the lock on being wrong when compared to my humble opinion. Any one who comes here with the attitude that they’re automatically wrong or that their comment will never be published or with the attitude that they cannot care any less about how I feel about things that matter to me, really is wasting his or her time. Riddle me this, if someone comes to my blog and says that they don’t give a shit about me and my opinion then why in the hell would I give a shit about theirs? Why would I want their opinion on my blog if the commenter doesn’t even think it should be there?
My unique view of the world isn’t designed to condemn white people to feeling like they are automatically wrong or unwelcome. I’m expressing an opinion, albeit a very unpopular one, about our modern day happenings and how these happenings impact the black community and some people wish to dismiss these observations as nothing more than self centered thinking wrapped up in righteousness so tight that white people simply don’t have any chance to voice their opinion and are, therefore, unwelcome.
Truth be told, a lot of people are unwelcome here. But it’s not because they don’t share my opinion. If someone is unwelcome here it is because they refuse to engage in an honest conversation with an honest desire to get to the truth of what has happened and of what is happening in all the issues that are mentioned here. I might not be right about everything. But whatever is written here is what I feel about what I see and comprehend as truth. Other people have their truths, and if that’s the case let’s compare and share and come away with a better understanding of things.
I doubt very seriously if that there are many people on this entire planet who share my view of things a hundred percent. Many people are more likely to share an opinion contrary to my own. Hell, even the misses and I will find ourselves on opposite sides of an issue on occasion. Regardless of the subject or the disagreement, I always do my best to welcome her opinion and respect her views. We have our heated moments. But the way I see it, that’s just part of us being in a relationship and having our own point of view. She might have a different opinion. And the way I see it, it’s okay if she’s wrong. At the end of the day, we still have a son to raise and we still have a house to run. We still work together. You might not agree with me. But in the grand scheme of things, we should still be able to work together for bigger and better things.
