It’s funny because just yesterday I saw an article on television about a man who’s teaching poor women in India how to become electrical engineers in just six months. I was floored. He didn’t spend a lot of time on theory but on basic practical fundamentals. He didn’t spend a lot of time with men because the men are looking for certificates that they can then use to go and find a job some place else while the woman were using what they were learning for more practical applications. These women had solar cells on top of their houses so their children could read at night. They had actually designed a solar powered stove that focused solar rays into an oven. And none of them spoke English. I thought it cool that this man teaches the poor how to make solar cells and such while we in America teach the poor how to sweep floors.

So why haven't Black Americans put together a recommended reading list for Black kids. Why assume they can't learn a lot of important information without schools. The books in the "GOOD" schools are selected by White anyway. How good do you think they really are. The perpetuate the perspective chosen by them anyway. Sci-fi I spent 4 months trying to get a Black woman librarian to get this book on the shelves. Real Sci Every time I came in the library she looked at me like I was nuts.

Great post! One of the major points I don’t hear this person trying to get the word out on. And that is “special treatment that white people have been receiving for centuries and still get today. Kelly and those like her want us to believe that somehow ONE UNCF is being racist or somehow withholding something from white students that they can’t get anywhere else. What about these scholarships Kelly, targeted to Polish Americans – over 57,100, Targeted to Irish Americans – 131,000, targeted to Italian Americans – 223,000, targeted to Jewish Americans – 808,000 and targeted to German Americans – 142,000. These are targeted to ANYONE who has any of these ethnicities in their ancestry.

There are thousands of these and I didn’t even do a search on ALL ethnicities that are considered white. Yet somehow ONE black targeted scholarship program is causing all the problems. It is pathetic. Just like you said some guy left a bunch of money to get some white school an Olympic sized pool. At least they had a pool to begin with and probably some decent books to boot. There are schools in the inner cities who don’t even have a decent building let alone a pool. But hey don’t let that fact stop them from complaining about something hardly based in fact.

It is totally tiring to constantly hear about all these so called freebies that blacks are racking up. The so called freebies that make sure we are underrepresented in corporate America and any other institution of higher income. All the while we are overrepresented in the penal system, poverty and police beatings/shootings.

Here is what some don’t understand: at historically African American colleges and universities, there ARE diversity enhancement programs aimed at attracting White students!!!

If someone wants to go to school at such a place, let them submit an application. If they are qualified, they will be pleasantly surprised.
